This is one my favourite pieces, which is ironic, as it was one the most difficult challenges I've faced so far. The Abraham Moon fabric has a beautiful multicoloured check, but the vertical and horizontal pattern repeat made it incredibly tricky to keep everything in line - anyone who's ever watched the Great British Sewing Bee will know what I'm talking about!
But accomplishing the task isn't the only reason I love this chair. The real reason is that this chair had been in my customer's family for a long time. It was really important to her that the work was top quality and she was really pleased with the final result. Now it can stay in her family for many more years to come. That, for me, is why I love doing this work.
These are the first two of a set of eight dining chairs I'm recovering. I've used a luxurious natural linen embroidered with flowers for these carvers - for the remaining six, I'll be covering them in a matching 'Highland twill' by Ian Mankin.
I'll post photos of the others as soon as they're done!
This was a fun commission - I took a dilapidated old wingback armchair and gave it a unique new lease of life with black velvet and imitation zebra hide!
I love working on retro furniture so these 2 latest commissions were a joy to do! The armchair is finished in Sanderson Rya fabric from their 1950s collection - an excellent choice to suite the style of the chair. The fabric on the dining chair is by my favourite designer Holly Zollinger - the vibrant blue looked amazing! I have some of that left too so if you like it and have an occasional chair to cover then get in touch!! Great fabric choices customers - hurray!
This job was a triple - two Victorian balloon-back chairs and a sprung chair. They were fully treated for woodworm, reglued, and resprung before being reupholstered in Champagne-coloured crushed velvet and finished with a double piped trim. A plain fabric was used here to bring out the beautiful shape of each chair and the finish was pure elegance!
As well as selling original work, I'm happy to take commissions. Here's a selection of my recent projects...
